The Maine Wolf Coalition, Inc. was founded in September 1994. Our mission is to support wolf recovery in Maine through research, education and protection. MWC operates on the principle that, regardless of whether one supports or opposes wolf recovery, it is of the utmost importance that the public be informed and involved in the decision-making process in order that public policy be based on facts, not on unfounded rumors, false assumptions, fears, or political biases.
MWC is a true grassroots organization of more than two hundred members. Although most members reside or summer in Maine, past and present members have come from as far away as Alaska, California, and Florida.
We are governed by a board of directors. The board is composed of the executive committee and the chairpersons of the five committees. The committees include research, education, publicity, policy/government relations, and membership/fundraising.
Having no paid staff, MWC relies entirely on the generosity and hard work of volunteers to get out the message. Without our volunteers, we would simply not exist. MWC provides an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to be involved on the front lines of the pro-wolf recovery movement. Opportunities for involvement range from giving wolf presentations in the classroom, to writing letters to government officials, to conducting track and howling surveys in the Maine woods.
Here's a great big thanks to everyone who is helping to make the Maine Wolf Coalition a success! Here's also an open invitation to everyone else to join us as we work together in support of one of the greatest environmental success stories of this century - the return of the wolf! Together, we will succeed!
